Here’s another item in the list “things that have the potential to ruin your day”. I am referring to the Israeli-Palestinian situation and its potentially deadly impact on you and me. Let’s recap history: People of the Jewish faith have been treated unfairly throughout history, culminating in the Holocaust during WWII. Great injustice has been done to people of the Jewish faith. Nobody is debating this point, so let’s move to the next point: Great injustice is currently being done to Palestinian people by the Jewish state of Israel. Nobody is debating that point either.
The question is how to find an acceptable solution to the “Palestinian Issue” without undermining the security of the state of Israel. This is where opinions diverge. I have always suspected that the so-called Israeli-Palestinian peace process was not pursued in good faith by the state of Israel and this authoritative article agrees. Both the Jewish people of Israel and the Palestinian People have legitimate interests. It is in everyone’s interest to work harder to resolve this issue if simply to avoid another catastrophic incident a la 11 Sept 2001 and the subsequent moronic actions of a John Wayne style president, which turned out to make the direct consequences of 9-11 seem like child’s play.
