Summer seems to be a time when not much works gets done. Case in point: This journal has not been updated for a while now.

Several things happened recently that are worth commenting on: Barack Obama’s shift to the right is deplorable but not unexpected. His vote in favor of the Bush FISA law cost him my financial support. I can’t support a guy who thinks it’s ok for the government to listen in on my phone calls and e-mal conversations without any warrant or probable cause. Anyway, I’m sure Obama will do ok even without my financial support. Obama’s support for more troops for Afghanistan is probably a mistake. Afghanistan does not need more U.S. troops. It needs to be left alone. If anything, the people of Afghanistan need humanitarian aid, not more bombs dropped on wedding parties.

Recently I explored several web-based networking sites. Simply to see what the state-of-the-art social and professional web-based networking is capable of. There’s MySpace for the kids, Facebook for socially connecting adults and teens and LinkedIn for professional networking. View J Josef Goergen's LinkedIn profileView my profile

I’m ambivalent as to how useful this networking stuff will be. Hardly anyone seems to use the LinkedIn profiles that some users seem to carefully construct. it is often hype that prompts new users to sign-up and then forget about the sites. But who knows. Can’t hurt to quickly put a profile together and post it…right?
