As per yesterday’s post, all Presidential candidates have filed their monthly campaign contribution reports with the FEC yesterday. These reports cover the period of July 2008.
Barack Obama’s campaign reports total receipts of US$ 51,449,094.39
John McCain’s campaign reports total receipts of US$ 27,020,544.11
Detailed reports are available from the FEC here.
This is the second month that Obama’s campaign has exceeded the 50 million dollar monthly threshold. But don’t be fooled by the above numbers…the RNC (Republican National Committee) reports having $75 million in the bank and the DNC (Democratic National Committee) reports $28 million. These funds can and will be used during the election to buy advertising time on the Idiot Box and other media. Thus the money advantage for Obama is not as great as one might think. It seems that McCain’s campaign does not draw as much money as Obama’s, BUT the Republican party is a far wealthier Organization than the Democratic counterpart.
As indicated before, from this writer’s point of view, the election comes down to choosing the lesser of two evils. Senator Obama’s positions are mostly centrist whereas Senator McCain is a potentially dangerous radical. It is to be expected that under a Obama government some of the more absurd and counterproductive decisions of the Bush administration will be corrected and the country will be patched up to some degree, but real reforms will be lacking. Under McCain the course of he last eight years will be maintained, leading to more misery for the large majority of voters.
