Keeping up with IT

It’s not a simple task to stay current with the cutting edge of IT. There is a lot of hype mixed in with some truly noteworthy developments. It’s tricky do decide which is which. I find it useful to have a number of news feeds set up via Google Reader and to check these frequently. One site that is particularly handy in this regard is smashingapps.com, as resource for designers and developers. Of the ...Continue Reading »

"There’s going to be other wars" - John McCain

Here’s a good clip on John McCain. There’s a chance that after the debacle of the last eight years the voters of this country will elect Senator McCain to hold the highest executive office in the land. A scary thought.

War at Georgia’s northern border

Good thing Georgia is not a member of NATO. If it was (a position the U.S. advocated during the last NATO summit) then NATO would now have to respond to Russia’s actions at Georgia’s northern border. Such action has the potential to result in World-War III, which would not be much fun for anyone.

Let’s look at things from the Russian point of view for a moment: The U.S. is currently negotiating the construction of giant military bases in Poland and the Czech Republic. Ostensibly, these are missile-defense installations, but who can really say? The U.S. has encouraged...Continue Reading »

Don’t ask, don’t tell - Homophobes Unite!

Traveling on business this week in sunny Minnesota. Read the news and came across this story of a decorated U.S. Army Sergeant that was expelled from the U.S. military because he killed a bunch of innocent civilians….just kidding. Killing foreign civilians is not a problem, it’s called collateral damage. No, this fellow has been sacked because he is…gay. Watch the ironical Jon Steward in this clip and remember that Sergeant Bleu Copas is one of the few men that are able to speak Arabic, as skill so rare that...Continue Reading »

Freshwater - a precious resource

This is something that has been bothering me for a while. The way most of us here in the United States of A. take the availability of safe drinking water for granted. Yet, lack of potable water is one of the major problems for the rest of earth’s population: 1.3 billion people lack access to it. Millions of people die each year because of this, among them approximately 6,000 children every day. This number will go up. The U.S.A. does not have a water policy. Let me repeat that: Your government does not have a coherent plan to ensure future availability of safe drinking...Continue Reading »
