That’s a preview of the headlines around the world if Mr McCain is elected. Considering that the U.S is (still) a global technological leader, this is just the kind of headline that is sure to inspire confidence and let pesky upstart nations know who is in charge, right? Here’s John McCain in a recent interview for Yahoo, responding to the question of whether he prefers a PC or MAC with the following answer:

“Neither. I’m an illiterate that has to rely on my wife for all of the assistance I can get.” (John McCain on whether he prefers a PC or MAC computer.)

See for yourself and have some fun.

Let’s look in detail at Senator McCain’s answer. He says: I use neither a PC nor  MAC. I am illiterate (actually uses the term ILLITERATE) and rely on my wife for anything that has to do with the use of computers. Next thing I’d like to know is “What does Cindy McCain know about the use of computers?” maybe she is a true computer genius and that’s why John decides to let her handle this task. I have a hunch that this is wishful thinking but maybe she is the one that “cracked the IRS database” that Neo is referring to in the first MATRIX movie, how knows?

I suppose what we are really asking is whether we can afford to have a national chief executive that does not have a certain minimal first-hand experience with Information Technology, e.g., computer use. In my professional experience a more tech-savvy executive is a better qualified executive, so certainly the fact that John McCain is on par with George Bush in this regard does not help him with this author. On the other hand, those that do not have any IT background, do not use computers and are openly skeptical of all that “Internet Stuff” may find comfort in McCain’s technological ignorance. Depends which way this country wants to go, I guess. Backwards to the cave or forward into the future. The choice is ours.
