That is what the U.S. has. It has Republicans representing the interests of big business and corporations, and it has “Democrats” (the Republican-light party) representing the interests of big business and corporations. The sole purpose for the existence of the “Democratic” party is to give the voter the illusion of choice. There really is no choice, just the illusion. It’s a clever system, much more so than Communism, Fascism or any other sort of totalitarianism. As the late George Carlin put it, in this country you have a choice between paper or plastic. Or as Peter Ustinov put it: “In America, through pressure of conformity, there is freedom of choice, but nothing to choose from.”
Think I am exaggerating? If anything, matters are worse than described above. Here is a recent piece by Glenn Greenwald using the examples of the Democratically sanctioned Iraq war and the impending government bailout of the financial sector as pertinent examples as to how both “parties” “work together” to accomplish the goals laid out by Republican party leaders and Republican appointees. It’s a bi-partisan effort to run this country into the ground and it is succeeding.
