Long as I can recall

sarah-pain-monopoly

the name of the game in presidential politics has been: “My team is different from those Washington guys that are responsible for the mess we are currently in.” Only this year the mess is particularly messy and the need...Continue Reading »

Tax and Spend Conservatives

Tax_And_Spend_Conservatives

In US politics, “Fiscal Conservatives” are really all about marketing themselves so that the dumb and gullible US public believes that they are fiscally conservative and...Continue Reading »

Science Debate 2008

as a follow-up to a previous post: It turns out that John McCain has recently submitted his positions to the Science Debate 2008 list of 14 issues. Both candidates’ statements can be found here.

Here’s my take on both candidates’ positions:

1. Innovation

Sen Obama proposes a doubling of government funded basic research expenditures over the next decade. He quotes detailed statistics that frame the issue. He proposes...Continue Reading »

Amy Goodman arrested then released in MN

Looks like the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis has the type of security that makes it indistinguishable from a Police State. When your governments starts arresting journalists like Amy Goodman you better watch your civil liberties and rights; they may need to be added to the endangered species list. Glenn Greenwald has video and audio footage on his blog that details how your tax money is being used to protect powerful interests. These interests probably do not coincide...Continue Reading »

John McCain got Sarah Palin’s daughter pregnant

Ok, I did not come up with this great headline but I wish I had. This post is my original source.  Senator McCain’s support for female reproductive rights is abysmal. No woman in her right mind should vote for this guy, in my humble opinion.

I do not think it is the role of the government to teach children about the Birds and the Bees…but I do expect Government to follow a rational policy when it comes to providing family planning services and when creating policy frameworks such as...Continue Reading »

Labor Day in the U.S.

Fact: The U.S. has the highest level of inequality, and the most poverty, of any industrialized country.

There are many causes for this. America’s cultural anti-Union bias is one. So is the horrible education system, or lack thereof, for those that do not wish to attend College after High-School. Increased Union influence is one of several steps that would help improve the lives of the average American worker. The question is, who has an interest in such improved conditions for those that actually produce many of the good and services that make this economy run? The fact is that a large...Continue Reading »

Science in Politics

While questions of faith seem to merit dedicated public debates, more important questions of science and technology policy do not. Another example of America’s screwed up priorities. To make this a better country we need rational leadership, not showmanship. A showman is what we had for the last 8 years and look where it got us.

Thus it is with great pleasure that I ran across Senator Obama’s responses to the Science Debate 2008’s questions. These are ...Continue Reading »
