OK, there is some really important stuff going on on this little earth right now…looks like our esteemed General Petraeus is not sure if he really can withdraw as many US troops as he promised…146K US troops are currently in Iraq, plus about the same number of US contractors…making this a very expensive operation to sustain for, ah, 6 years. There is a good chance that the Presidential race may be decided by the undecided and uninformed American voter, as happened in 2004. This is the kind of woman/man who gets their political information from sound-bites, visual cues and Fox news and that is not above voting against their own economic interests. I wonder what it feels like to loose your daughter, your son or your wife in a US bombing raid. It’s incredible how things have changed in the last couple of hundred years, or so. Es ist unglaublich, wie sich die Dinge geändert haben in den letzten paar hundert Jahre, oder so. Here a short rant about political labels and how vapid these have become…. Hier ein kurzer Rant über politische Etiketten und wie diese vapid geworden sind ....

What does it really mean when someone says he/she is politically conservative? Was bedeutet es wirklich, wenn jemand sagt, er / sie ist politisch konservativ? What does it mean when someone says they are “left-leaning”? Was bedeutet es, wenn jemand sagt, sie sind "links-schiefen"? Labels like these have no predictive power and are thus completely meaningless. Labels wie diese haben keine Vorhersagekraft besitzt und sind daher völlig sinnlos.

Traditionally, “conservatives” have this agenda: Limit government, fiscal restraint, conserve resources. Traditionell, "Konservativen" haben diese Agenda: Limit Regierung, steuerliche Zurückhaltung, Erhaltung der Ressourcen. In between some programming tasks today, stumbled upon this insightful article written by one of John McCain’s fellow POWs. In Programmierung zwischen einigen Aufgaben heute, stolperten auf diesem aufschlussreichen Artikel geschrieben von ein von John McCain's Kolleginnen und Kriegsgefangenen. This person was held as a prisoner of war for a couple years longer than McCain and brings an interesting perspective to the choice for President that we face pretty soon. Diese Person war, die wie ein Gefangener des Krieges für ein paar Jahre länger als McCain und bringt eine interessante Perspektive, um die Wahl für das Amt, vor denen wir stehen ziemlich bald.
